Business after 5 Event with Karearea Falcon Trust
Thursday, 20 March 2025 (5:00 PM - 6:30 PM) (NZDT)
Description
"We’ve all seen those raptors (birds of prey) flying over the vineyards, most of them are the kāhu (swamp harrier), but the rare odd one or two might be the beautiful kārearea (New Zealand falcon). Smaller than the harrier, the kārearea is a threatened and endemic species. They are a key component of our ecosystem and with fewer left in NZ than kiwi - they truly need help!
Here in Marlborough, we run the only dedicated kārearea rescue, rehabilitation, and breed for release facility in the country. Working with landowners, Iwi, DOC, and other conservation groups, our charity is focussed on restoring wild kārearea populations and growing awareness within the community of threats facing this unique species. We hope to inspire action to protect not only kārearea, but all wildlife.
Join us on 20 March to meet our team, see the centre where it all happens, and be captivated by kārearea!"
