Cyber Security for Business Leaders

Thursday, 18 June 2026 (2:00 PM - 4:00 PM) (NZST)

Description

Presented in plain language by Hazel Trethowen, Client Manager at Cloudland.  This workshop came about after a conversation with our non-technical EO, who finally said “now I get it.” It quickly became clear there is a real need for cyber security to be explained without the jargon or technical language that can leave many business owners feeling lost.  Hazel will break it down in a way that’s easy to understand, with practical steps businesses can take away to strengthen their cyber security.

Cloudland are valued partners of our Chamber and are pleased to offer this heavily discounted workshop to our members, supporting businesses across Marlborough.

Cyber security is no longer just an IT concern — it’s a core business risk that affects operations, reputation, and financial resilience. This practical, non‑technical workshop is designed for business owners and leaders who want to better understand cyber risk and the security measures that help reduce it, without needing deep technical knowledge.

Using clear language and real‑world examples, the session explores how cyber breaches actually occur, what attackers are typically trying to achieve, and why organisations of all sizes are targeted. It introduces a layered approach to cyber security — covering foundational protections such as email security, identity protection, endpoint monitoring, backups, and incident planning — and explains how these controls work together to reduce risk.

Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of what “good” cyber security looks like, what questions to ask their IT provider, and how leadership decisions influence an organisation’s security posture. The session is intended to inform better conversations and smarter decision‑making, rather than provide a one‑size‑fits‑all checklist or technical deep dive.
