Leading Humans is Messy

Leading Humans Is Messy: Understanding Behaviour and Responding Effectively When It Counts

Thursday, 30 July 2026 (9:00 AM - 1:00 PM) (NZST)

Description

Workshop overview

Most leadership challenges aren’t technical. They’re human.

And yet, most leaders are never actually taught how to handle the people side of the role.

This workshop is designed for leaders and people managers who want to deepen their understanding of what drives behaviour at work, and how to respond in ways that build trust, clarity, and confidence in their teams.

In this practical, down-to-earth session, we’ll explore real-world, psychology-informed tools that answer the important questions, like “what do I actually say and do in this situation?”

We’ll cover:

  • what drives people’s reactions at work, and how to respond more effectively
  • why feedback and difficult conversations can trigger defensiveness or withdrawal (and how to minimise the chances of that)
  • how to approach tricky conversations without tying yourself in knots or putting them off
  • how to stay calm and grounded when emotions run high

Who it’s for:

Leaders, team managers, and anyone responsible for managing people who want to feel more confident handling the “messy” human side of leadership.

By the end of this workshop, you will:

  • feel better equipped with knowledge and practical tools to approach difficult conversations with more clarity and confidence
  • understand what drives behaviour and reactions in yourself and others (and how to respond more effectively)
  • have a clear, practical structure for navigating tricky conversations
  • learn simple, in-the-moment techniques to manage your reactions under pressure
  • leave with a set of practical “cheat sheet” resources — including conversation starters— so you’re not left guessing what to say when it matters most.

Format:

Half-day workshop

Time: 9:00am – 1:00pm

Pricing:

$220 + GST (Chamber members)

$245 + GST (non-members)
